ENG: As I still have some 15kg of raw chocolate from our sponsor BarryCallebaut home. A few weeks ago, Norbert and I made some chocolate shapes with it. We added nuts and dryfruits. Now we're just eating roughly 500 grams. But we hope we can do more and sell them during a few events to come. The idea is to raise money for Nepal-Secours of course.

FRA: Chez moi,j'ai encore environ 15kg de chocolat brut de notre sponsor BarryCallebaut. Il y a quelques semaines, Norbert en moi avons fait fondre le chocolat pour en faire des formes en y intégrant des noix et fruits secs. Pour l'instant on mange environ 500 grammes. ENG: I met Dani Monteiro on the last day of the trek, while she was on her first day trekking towards base camp. The show was on Brazilian TV on 23/07/2009 and the next morning I received an email from a Brazilian girl who had seen me on TV. Dani walked with adventure specialist doctor Karina Oliani and a cameraman. After the show, this site got 250 visitors from Brazil.

FRA: Le dernier jour du trek, j'ai été interviewé par Dani Monteiro lorsqu'elle commençait son trek vers le camp de base. Son show est passé à la télé Brésilienne ce 23/07/2009 et lendemain je recevais un email d'une Brésilienne qui m'avait vue. Dani était accompagnée d'un caméraman et du docteur Karina Oliani spécialisée dans l'aventure. Après l'émission, notre site à été visité par 250 Brésiliens.

Just arrived !

ENG: The team is just arrived in Belgium! Everything is ok, even if Louis-Philippe is weak and ill affected by a massive stomac-ache. They already are missing the beautiful mountains and the nice nepalese people, and living again in a big city is not an easy task, especially after one month of great adventures.

The very good news is they love chocolate more than before their departure...

The mission is not over yet however, there's still the entire planet who has to know about the Nepal Mobile Hospital project and donations are still required. The team will focus during the next months on making the project known and also try to convince future expeditions in Nepal to raise funds for the Nepal Mobile Hospital.

FRA: L'équipe est arrivée en Belgique! Tout va bien, même si Louis-Philippe est faible et fortement malade au ventre. Les splendides montagnes et l'accueillant peuple népalais leur manque déjà. Il faut s'habituer à vivre dans une grande ville de nouveau et ce n'est pas une mince affaire après un mois de formidables aventures. La très bonne nouvelle est qu'ils aiment le chocolat plus qu'avant leur départ...

La mission n'est quand à elle pas encore terminée, car le monde doit encore connaître le projet de l'hôpital mobile du Nepal et des dons sont nécessaires. L'équipe va continuer pendant les mois prochains à faire connaître le projet et essayer de convaincre des futures expéditions au Népal à collecter des fonds pour l'hôpital mobile du Nepal.

On the way back

ENG: The three Choc Sherpas are now on the way back to Belgium. As they are still thinking about their fabulous days at the Base Camp and about the chocolate tasting, they took the road again to reach Kathmandu. On the way Louis-Philippe was interviewed by a Brazilian TV team, which was turning a kind of adventure series. Now they are happy to meet again the great team of Yatri Tours that helped a lot in the expedition and they are preparing their return.

FRA: Les trois Choc Sherpas sont maintenant sur le chemin du retour pour la Belgique. Tandis qu’ils pensaient encore à leurs merveilleux jours passés au Camp de Base et à la dégustation, ils ont pris le chemin de Katmandou. Sur la route, Louis-Philippe a été interviewé par une équipe de TV brésilienne qui était en train de tourner une sorte de série d’aventure.

Maintenant, ils sont heureux de retrouver la formidable équipe de Yatri Tours qui les a beaucoup aidé pour l’expédition et ils préparent leur retour.

The Highest Chocolate Tasting (2nd Part)

ENG: As you might know, our challenge walk from Kathmandu to EBC has been a success. And we're on our way back (now in Namche Bazaar, tomorrow, Lukla probably to get our plane on 8/5) to Kathmandu.

Norbert has been altitude-sick at the wrong moment and he turned back two hours away from the Base Camp. It was a safe decision, and Joseph and I have been expected him on the day after and went back on the 2 of May to Gorak Shep to wait for him, doing the Kala Pattar underway.

On the 2-3-4 of May I passed around expeditions team, met people from Discovery Channel, Himex, First Ascent, 7 summits, Asian Trekking (Apa Sherpa), adventure consultants and IMG where I discussed with an astronaut. He knew Nasa doing tests in the Simpson desert and was impressed by my walk.

But most of all each time I took the liberty to speak about our cause: the Nepal Mobile Hospital. And for the climbers I explained how having some Acticoa chocolate could be a plus for their summit day.

On the biggest tasting day (03/05) I was sick as I vomited everything I ate, and on the 4th I felt better and could finally film the last bit of tasting. We left EBC around noon and pushed hard to Pheriche arriving at 7pm.

This morning it was Joseph's turn to be sick. We use walkie-talkies to keep in touch when walking. But I had to be in Namche for some photos. I'll sleep high (for reception) in the tent tonight above Namche and will leave the sat phone on for any interview. Joseph is not too far from Namche and he should make it by noon tomorrow; if not, I go back and get him. I'm very careful with the food now, eating just packs of noodles. I just hope we might all the 3 of us be reunited tomorrow in Lukla or the day after.

We hope all people reading this blog will forward it to their friends and hopefully do a donation for the Nepal Mobile Hospital.

FRA: Comme vous le savez maintenant, nous avons réussi notre défi qui consistait à rejoindre le Camp de Base de l’Everest depuis Katmandou. Nous sommes maintenant sur le chemin du retour (aujourd’hui à Namche Bazaar, demain à Lukla pour prendre normalement notre avion le 8/05) pour Katmandou.

Norbert a été malade au mauvais moment et il a du redescendre à deux heures du Camp de Base. C’était la décision la plus raisonnable et sûre. Joseph et moi l’avons attendu le lendemain et nous sommes retournés le 2 mai à Gorak Shep pour l’attendre, faisant le Kala Pattar en chemin.

Les 2, 3 et 4 mai, j’ai rencontré les expéditions sur place, les gens de Discovery Channel, Himex, First Ascent, 7 summits, Asian Trekking (Apa Sherpa), des consultants et des gens de l’IMG dont un astronaute. Il savait que la Nasa faisait des tests dans le désert de Simpson et a été impressionné par la traversée.

Mais surtout, à chaque fois, j’ai pris le temps de parler de notre cause: l’Hôpital Mobile du Népal. Aux grimpeurs, j’ai expliqué de quelle manière avoir du chocolat Acticoa pouvait être un plus pour leurs ascensions. Le jour majeur de la dégustation (03/05), j’ai été malade et j’ai vomi tout ce que j’avalais. Le 4 je me suis senti mieux et j’ai pu filmer la dernière partie de la dégustation.

Nous avons quitté le Camp de Base aux alentours de midi et avons marché à un rythme soutenu pour arriver à Pheriche vers 19h.

Ce matin ça été au tour de Joseph de tomber malade. Nous utilisons des talkie-walkies pendant la marche pour rester en contact. Mais il fallait que je sois à Namche pour faire des photos. Je vais dormir en hauteur (pour la réception du satellite) dans la tente ce soir aux alentours de Namche et je vais laisser le téléphone satellite ouvert pour des interviews. Joseph n’est plus très loin et il devrait me rejoindre d’ici demain midi, sinon, j’irai le récupérer. Je suis très prudent avec la nourriture maintenant et je n’avale que des nouilles.

Nous devrions être réunis tous les trois demain ou après-demain à Lukla. Nous espérons que tous les gens qui lisent ce blog le feront partager à leurs amis et peut être faire un geste pour l’Hôpital Mobile.

The Highest Chocolate Tasting !

ENG: The “D” day finally came! On the 3rd and 4th of May, after many adventures the team organised the highest Belgian chocolate tasting.

There were really happy and relieved to see how the tasting was going on, even if Louis-Philippe was sick a part of the day. Joseph did a great job, distributing dozens kilograms of chocolate! That is the power of a team and that is something they learned during this adventure. They found a strategic place to organize the tasting and meet many people, all very concentrated on the trek.

In two days they distributed 100 kg of good chocolate and presented the Nepal Mobile Hospital project. Everyone agreed on the necessity of such a Hospital.

Louis-Philippe felt soon better and they went to the Kala Patar. There, they were interviewed by the team of Montagna TV (Italian Mountaineering TV).

They met Apa Sherpa, who is attempting to summit the Everest for the 19th time! As usual his wife doesn’t know he will attempt…She only discovers it when he goes back home, Apa said with humor to the team. A beautiful moment with a great Nepalese climber!

They constantly had a though for Norbert, enduring the altitude sickness and was unfortunately forced to walk down.

FRA: Le jour “J” est enfin arrivé ! Le 3 et 4 mai, après de nombreuses aventures l’équipe a organisé la plus haute dégustation de chocolat Belge au monde. Ils ont été heureux et soulagés de voir la façon dont s’est passé la dégustation, même si Louis-Philippe a été malade une partie de la journée. Joseph a fait un excellent travail en distribuant des dizaines de kilos de chocolat ! C’est la force d’une équipe et c’est aussi ce qu’ils ont appris pendant cette aventure. Ils ont trouvé une place stratégique pour organiser la dégustation est ont rencontré beaucoup de monde, tous très concentrés sur leur trek.

En deux jours ils ont distribué 100 kg de chocolat et présenté le projet de l’Hôpital Mobile du Népal. Tous s’accordent sur la nécessité de créer un tel hôpital.

Lorsque Louis-Philippe s’est senti mieux ils ont grimpé au Kala Patar. Là-bas, ils ont été interviewés par l’équipe de Montagna TV (une télévision de montagne italienne).

Ils ont rencontré Apa Sherpa, qui va tenter sa 19ème ascension ! Comme d’habitude, sa femme n’est au courant de rien…Elle découvre la surprise une fois son mari redescendu, a confié avec humour Apa à l’équipe. Un magnifique moment avec un grand grimpeur Népalais.

Ils ont constamment eu une pensée pour Norbert, qui, victime du mal d’altitude, a été obligé de redescendre.

The Base Camp (5350m)

ENG: After a 20 days trek across Nepal carrying more than 100 kg of chocolate, multiple high passes and despite difficult conditions the team finally reached the Everest Base Camp on the 1st of May. The Base Camp is amazing, a true ant hill, many mountaineers. The weather is cold and they even had a short snowfall before the arrival. They had the chance to contemplate for a short time the roof of the world. After installing the tent they started talking with people around them, explaining the reason of their long walk from Kathmandu. They met alpinists and started gathering some news about the current expeditions which will be summiting the Everest. Of course the name of some famous climbers like Ed Viesturs are on all lips. The word began to spread about a Belgian team bringing chocolate from Kathmandu to support the project of a mobile hospital. Funny idea but beautiful project!

No doubt that the Base Camp and the Khumbu Ice Fall will do a perfect frame for the highest chocolate tasting in the world.

FRA: Après un trek de 20 jours à travers le Népal en portant plus de 100 kg de chocolat, passant de hauts cols et malgré les difficiles conditions, l'équipe est finalement arrivée au Camp de Base de l'Everest ce 1er mai. Le Camp de Base est incroyable une vraie fourmilière avec de nombreux alpinistes. Le temps est froid et ils ont même eu une petite chute de neige avant leur arrivée. Ils ont eu la chance de contempler le toit du monde durant un court moment. Après avoir installé la tente, ils ont commencé à parler aux gens autour d'eux et expliquer la raison de leur longue marche depuis Katmandou. Ils ont rencontré des alpinistes et commencé à récolter de l'information sur les expéditions qui préparent l'ascension de l'Everest. Les noms d'alpinistes fameux comme Ed Viesturs sont bien sûr sur toutes les lèvres. Le mot commence à se répandre qu'une expédition Belge est partie de Katmandou pour soutenir le projet de création d'un hôpital mobile avec comme objectif la plus haute dégustation du monde. Une idée insolite mais une belle idée!

Il ne fait aucun doute que le Camp de Base et la cascade de glace du Khumbu vont faire un cadre magnifique pour la plus haute dégustation de chocolat du monde!

Step by step

ENG: the team is heading for the Base Camp. Since two days they have reduced their pace and only walk few hours a day to prevent the high altitude sickness. They reached passes at 4900 meters but slept always lower. For the moment they follow the planning and apart from some few headaches their bodies seems to progressively feet onto the altitude (an undiscovered quality of the chocolate?). However caution has to be the keyword.

FRA: l’équipe se dirige vers le Camp de Base. Depuis deux jours ils ont réduit leur rythme et marchent seulement quelques heures par jour pour prévenir le mal d’altitude. Ils ont atteint des cols à 4900 mètres mais ont toujours dormi plus bas. Pour le moment ils suivent le planning et à l’exception de quelques maux de tête, leurs corps semblent s’acclimater progressivement à l’altitude (un effet inconnu du chocolat ?). Cependant la prudence est de mise.

Nice meetings in Tengboche

ENG: After their daily walk and tastings in Tengboche, the team went to visit a beautiful monastery on the mountain that overhang the village. They were invited to a ceremony by the monks and spent good time drinking tea with them. Later Louis-Philippe met a French engineer who went down from the base camp. He gave lots of details about the base camp and it seems that all the alpinists’ teams are still there. The base camp is like an ant-hill theses days.

FRA: Après leur marche et leur dégustation quotidienne à Tengboche, l’équipe a visité le splendide monastère sur la montagne qui surplombe le village. Ils ont été invités par les moines à se joindre à la cérémonie et ils ont passé un excellent moment à boire du thé en leur compagnie. Plus tard, Louis-Philippe a rencontré un ingénieur français descendant du camp de base. Ce dernier lui a donné de nombreux détails sur la vie du camp en ce moment et il semble que les équipes d’alpinistes soient toujours au pied de l’Everest. Le camp de base ressemble à une fourmilière ces derniers jours.

Around Namche Bazaar

ENG: The Chocolate Sherpa team reached successfully Namche Bazaar this week-end. They were welcomed warmfully by the population and as often since the begining their reputation get ahead of them. Many people are talking about three Belgians carrying chocolate.

During the walk they meet a young Nepalese on the path who has been wounded with a rock fall. Thanks to the team medical gear and a nurse, they look after him. They take advantage of this to visit the community clinic and see once again how it is important to provide help to Nepalese people in terms of medical care.

FRA: L'équipe de Chocolate Sherpa a rejoint avec succès Namche Bazaar ce week-end. Ils ont été accueillis chaleureusement par la population et comme souvent depuis le départ leur réputation les a précédés. De nombreuses personnes parlent de trois Belges portant du chocolat.

Durant la marche ils ont rencontré un jeune Népalais blessé à cause d'une chute de rocher sur le chemin. Grâce à leur matériel de soin et une infirmière, ils ont pu le soigner. Ils ont en profiter pour visiter le dispensaire local and constater une fois de plus la nécessité d'apporter de l'aide médicale à la population népalaise.

The team got larger !

ENG: After picking up around 120 kg of chocolate at the airport of Lukla and refill their stock, the Chocolate Sherpa Team take the road again…but not alone. Three authentic Sherpas are now helping them for the walk to the base camp. Their names are Ang Phuri Sherpa, Ang Pieima Sherpa and Pal Zhang Sherpa. They assisted their new companions today in Phakding with their first tasting along the road.

FRA: Après avoir récupéré environ 120 kg de chocolat à l’aéroport de Lukla et refait le plein, l’équipe de Chocolate Sherpa reprends la route…mais pas toute seule. Trois Sherpas les aident désormais dans leur marche jusqu’au camp de base. Leurs noms sont Ang Phuri Sherpa, Ang Pieima Sherpa et Pal Zhang Sherpa. Ils ont organisé leur première dégustation aujourd’hui à Phakding avec leurs nouveaux compagnons.

Arrival in Lukla

ENG: The whole team met yesterday in Lukla! After a difficult trek (about 1500 meters' ramp) Louis-Philippe and Norbert finally reached Lukla. They easily found Joseph healthy and ready to start the next step to the Base Camp.

Since the beginning they learned a lot about the Himalaya, the most mythic Mountains in the world. The house of snows (in Sanskrit, Him = snow and alaya = house), which is more than 2400km’s long and covers an area of more than 600,000km². It crosses five countries: India, Pakistan, Tibet, Nepal and Bhutan. There are many ethnic groups influenced, but not only, by Hinduism and Buddhism. This mosaic of cultures and traditions prevents any generalisation on the people living in the regions: in Nepal, between 24 and 100 different languages and dialects are coexisting…

Each day gives them the opportunity to meet people and learn about this fascinating place.

FRA: Toute l'équipe s'est retrouvée à Lukla! Après une partie difficile (environ 1500 m de dénivellé dans la journée) Louis-Philippe et Norbert ont finalement atteint Lukla. Ils ont facilement retrouvé Joseph en pleine forme prêt à attaquer la nouvelle étape en direction du camp de base.

Depuis le départ, ils ont beaucoup appris sur l’Himalaya, la chaîne de montagne la plus mythique au monde. La demeure des neiges (en sanskrit, Him = neige et alaya= maison) qui s’étend sur plus de 2400km de long et couvre une aire d’environ 600 000km². Elle traverse cinq pays : l’Inde, le Pakistan, le Tibet, le Népal et le Bhoutan, est habitée par de nombreuses ethnies influencées, entre autres, par le bouddhisme et l’hindouisme. La mosaïque de coutumes et de cultures empêche toute généralisation sur les peuples qui vivent dans l’Himalaya. Rien qu’au Népal, on recense les Limbu, les Rai, les Newar, les Sherpa, les Tamang ou encore les Gurung. On peut entendre au Népal entre 24 et 100 langues et dialectes différents…

Chaque jour est fait de nouvelles rencontres et leur permet de mieux connaître cet endroit fascinant.

Still walking

ENG: They reached a 3500 meters pass today and took a deep breath of the fresh air of Himalaya. After this mountain, they crossed the village of Junbesi and walked towards Lukla.

FRA: Ils ont passé un col à 3500 mètres aujourd'hui et ont pris un bon bol d'air pur Himalayen. Après cela ils ont traversé le village de Junbesi et ont continué leur route en direction de Lukla.

ENG: No doubt that this day was tiring for our Chocolate Sherpa! They had to pass two very difficult mountains loading and unloading the sherpa trek because of the numerous rocks on the track and the weight they are carrying. The highest peak was around 2800 meters and it took 14 hours to reach their goal. Now they sleep in Deohari. According to locals this part of the trek is much more difficult than the part from Lukla to the Base Camp. Hoping they are right…

FRA: Cette journée a été épuisante pour nos Chocolate Sherpa ! Ils ont eu à passer deux cols difficiles en chargeant et déchargeant les sherpa trek à cause des nombreux rochers et passages difficiles sur le chemin et le poids qu’ils ont à porter. Le plus haut col était à une hauteur de 2800 mètres environ et il leur a fallu 14 heures de marche pour atteindre leur but. Ils dorment à présent à Deohari. Si l’on en croît les gens sur place, cette partie du trek est plus difficile que celle qui va de Lukla vers le Camp de Base. Espérons qu’ils aient raison…

Reunion in Jiri

ENG: Louis-Philippe reached Jiri yesterday around noon. The entire village already heard about a crazy Belgian adventurer arrival and Norbert did not have to wait a long time before they met each other. LouPhi was blocked two days ago by 40 Nepalese at the sunset. They did not want to let him continue his walk during the night arguing the bad weather, then the night fall and finally some tigers! Finally LouPhi decided to stay because he had no choice. What was the right reason? He is still wondering…

Norbert and Louis-Philippe had some rest and prepare the next steps of the adventure.

Unfortunately Joseph did not succeed to join them in time. The troubles and strikes on the way to Jiri made the transport too random. They decided to meet in Lukla in few days. During this time Joseph is still training, trekking and meeting local people to gather information on the way they live.

FRA: Louis-Philippe a atteint Jiri hier aux environs de midi. Tout le village avait déjà entendu parler de l’arrivée d’un aventurier belge un peu loufoque et Norbert n’a pas eu longtemps à attendre avant qu’ils ne se retrouvent. LouPhi a été bloqué il y a deux jours par 40 népalais à la sortie d’un village au coucher du soleil. Ils ne voulaient pas le laisser continuer sa marche arguant le mauvais temps, puis la tombée de la nuit et enfin la présence de tigres ! Finalement LouPhi a décider de passer là nuit là parce qu’il n’avait pas vraiment d’autre choix. Quelle était la vrai raison ? Il se le demande encore…

Norbert et Louis-Philippe ont pris un peu de repos et on préparé les prochaines étapes de l’aventure.

Malheureusement, Joseph n’a pas réussi à les rejoindre à temps. Les troubles locaux et les grèves sur la route qui mène à Jiri ont rendu le transport trop aléatoire. Ils ont décidés de se retrouver plus loin à Lukla dans quelques jours. Pendant ce temps, Joseph continue à s’acclimater, à randonner et à rencontrer des népalais pour comprendre leur mode de vie.

Close to Jiri

ENG : This last two days have been exhausting but full of meetings.

This morning, Louis-Philippe wanted to grant him a late sleep by waking up at 4 a.m (instead of 3a.m since the begining). When he woke up to leave, the gate of the garden where he slept had been closed. As he had closed his door with keys inside, he was blocked in the courtyard. So he finally slept one hour more in a open room before the gate reopened and starting his walk again...

The typical day starts around 4a.m with a walk during the short time where the weather is still fresh. Then he takes several short breaks and he can thus start a short tasting with locals. Ascent of passes are hard. At the end of the day, generous inhabitants invite him to have a tea and sometimes offers him hospitality.

Chocolate is distributed along the road as foreseen. Yesterday, LouPhi, stoped in the middle of a small village to improvise a tasting. The first two minutes he managed to maintain some order in front of the table where was the chocolate, then...everybody rushed on chocolate!

People are very curious to see someone walking on this part of the road usually not used by trekkers and its favorises beautiful meetings and many discussions.

No more than 30 km before Jiri and the start for the roof of the world.

The rest of the team has to face with local constaints of tranport (strikes, and so on) but the moral is still high.

FRA: Ces deux derniers jours ont été éprouvants mais incroyablement riches en rencontres.

Ce matin, Louis-Philippe a voulu s'accorder une grasse matinée en se levant à 4h du matin (au lieu des 3h habituels depuis le départ !). Lorsqu'il s'est levé pour partir, le portail du jardin dans lequel il dormait était fermée. Comme il avait refermée la porte avec les clefs à l'intérieur, il s'est retrouvé coincé dans la cour. Il a finalement dormi une heure supplémentaire dans une pièce ouverte avant de se faire ouvrir le portail et reprendre la route...

La journée type commence donc vers 4h du matin avec une marche à la fraîche entrecoupée de courtes pauses qui donnent lieu à une petite degustation avec la population. Les ascensions de cols sont particulièrement difficiles. En fin de journée, les habitants, généreux proposent de venir prendre un thé et parfois offrent l'hospitalité.

Le chocolat est distribué comme prévu le long de la route. Hier, LouPhi s'arrête au milieu d'un village pour improviser une dégustation. Les deux premières minutes, il a réussi à maintenir un semblant d'ordre devant la table ou était le chocolat... puis tout le monde s'est rué sur les chocolat!

La population est très curieuse de voir marcher quelqu'un sur cette partie de la route habituellement délaissée des trekkeurs ce qui favorise de belles rencontres et de nombreux échanges.

Plus qu'une trentaine de kilomètres avant Jiri et le départ vers le toit du monde...

Le reste de l'équipe est un peu soumise aux contraintes de transport (grèves, etc) du pays mais le moral reste bon.

On the road

ENG: The team started his walk yesterday around noon. Jospeh stayed in Katmandu to arrange few details and absorb the nepalese culture.

It was a hard walk for LouPhi and Norbert who had to deal with pollution and traffic to go out of the city.

The sherpa treks help a lot both to carry the chocolate and create contact among nepalese population. Everyone is curious to see this strange cart full of chocolate !

Today, Norbert was tired because of a cold. Nothing serious but he needed some rest. He managed to reach Jiri to get some strenght before the hardest part of the adventure.

So for the next few days LouPhi, the team leader, his walking and carrying the chocolate by his own. He meets lots of people on his road and is invited by Nepalese to eat and sleep in their house. And even if they find this adventure very odd, they welcome him warmly.

All the team should be in Jiri on time and they will start to walk again together.

FRA: L'équipe a débuté sa marche hier aux environs de midi. Joseph est resté à Katmandou pour arranger quelques détails et s'imprégner de la culture népalaise. La marche a été rude pour LouPhi et Norbert qui ont eu à se frayer un chemin au milieu de la pollution et de la circulation pour sortir de la ville.

Les sherpa treks sont d'une grande aide, tant pour porter le chocolat, que pour susciter des contacts parmi la population népalaise. Tout le monde est curieux de voir cette étrange charette pleine de chocolat!

Aujourd'hui, Norbert a été affaibli par un coup de froid. Rien de grave mais il a besoin de repos. Il a fait route vers Jiri pour recouvrer ses forces avant la part la plus difficile de l'aventure.

Pour les jours à venir, LouPhi, le chef d'expédition, sera donc seul à marcher et à porter le chocolat. Il rencontre beaucoup de gens sur sa route et il est invité par les Népalais à manger et dormir chez eux. Même si l'aventure leur semble très étrange, ils l'accueillent chaleureusement.

Toute l'équipe devrait être réuni en temps et en heure à Jiri pour recommencer à marcher ensemble.

ENG: Today, Norbert and LouPhi went to Nepal for 30 minutes. Well, in fact they met the ambassador of Nepal at the embassy of Nepal in Brussels where they joined André Mochamps the president of RESCUE NEPAL (Nepal Secours in French), the NGO that will collect the funds and manage the hospital project. They explained the project to H. E. Mr. Pramesh Kumar Hamal (Ambassador) and Mr. Durga Prasad Bhandari (First secretary). Joseph wasn't present as he is leaving this Saturday for 1 week training in the Alps.

ENG: Some gear testing this weekend. We went testing the sherpa-trek and for sure people were curious. We also received our Wilsa sleeping bags. And currently I don't want to show photos of us inside as I can't bear staying in it more than 30 seconds as it's really warm. The Sherpa-trek works well, pushing or pulling it. We also started some training I personally need to get quickly into shape so I passed 2 long hours running pulled by my roommate's Jack Russell and then carrying treelogs to strengthen my upper body.

ENG: We are always excited to receive new equipment and to test it during a team event. Today we tested our JULBO glasses. They're sexy, we look good with it, and more important they'll protect our eyes ! We got the JULBO explorer Cameleon model, whick is really cool, lightweight and fits our different faces. We also have a wrap-around model where we can use our normal glasses inside of it. And we really love our JULBO beanie, it's polyprop and thus warm. Neat ! Ok we know, we don't look serious but after almost 3 months of working until 1 am every day, it was good fun.

Everest climate

ENG: Some people around us are asking why we're going during April-May? The idea being that it might not be so warm after the winter, or that the monsoon might be on its way...

Early May at EBC is the peak period of the year to attempt to summit the Everest so that's why we go at that time. The real question is why do mountaineers climb at this time of the year ? A small look at the weather chart image left (click to enlarge) and you'll get it: wind and temperature are not the best, just average. Daylight is ok but what matters is humidity: it's just before the monsoon so the probability of snowfall is smaller. In one word: the best period means for a safer climb. October-November being the 2nd best period but with more wind and less daylight.

FRA: Récemment, des amis nous ont demandé pourquoi nous partons en avril-mai. L'idée étant qu'il puisse encore faire froid au sortir de l'hiver, ou que la mousson puisse déjà pointer le bout de son nez...

Au début du mois de mai, le trafic au Camp de Base de l'Everest connaît un pic, dû au "créneau" climatique favorable à l'ascension. Nous nous devrons donc d'être présent à cette période. La vraie question est de savoir pourquoi les alpinistes grimpent à ce moment-là. Un bref coup d'oeil au graphique ci-dessus (cliquer pour agrandir) permet d'y répondre: vent et température ne sont pas au top, mais juste bien. La luminosité n'est pas trop mauvaise non plus, mais le plus important, c'est l'humidité. La mousson approchant, le risque de chutes de neige est réduit. En un mot: la meilleure période pour des conditions optimales d'ascension. Octobre-Novembre est le second "créneau", avec plus de vent, et moins de luminosité.

1000 people in Everest Base Camp

ENG: When you want to do a tasting, the first questions that come to mind are: How much chocolate per person and how many people will be there ? Well each year there's an estimation of between 500 to 1000 people. The max was reached in 2003 for the 50th anniversary of the first climb by Tenzing Norgay and Sir Edmund Hillary, topping out to 2000 people !

Did I ever mention that the first mountain Edmund climbed as teenager was Mount Ollivier ? Well it was my first real mountain in New Zealand too and my first mountaineering lesson as I removed my sunglasses on the top to prepare my Christmas dinner and became snow-blind the day after. Today I'm still sensitive to bright light so don't even try to get a photo of me with a flash, my eyes will close automatically.

But let's go back to our crowd estimation at EBC (Everest Base Camp). Alan Arnette, who is a very good source of Everest information wrote this week : "This may be most famous base camp in the world. Each year on both side of Everest literally hundreds of people live for almost two months. This year the Nepal side will be extra crowded with teams that postponed their 2008 climbs until now.... Seriously, there is a lot of traffic coming through base camp. Not only do you have the climbers but porters are making daily trips to ferry gear and food in then the waste out. Trekkers by the hundreds make the trip to visit base camp after a Kala Patar summit. So it can be quite crowded and there is a lot of foot traffic. Oh, and I didn't even mention the yak traffic!"

To this info, add the fact that China's tourism board just announced they'll close Tibet for the next months as they fear some demonstrations for the 50th anniversary of the flee of the Dalai Lama.

So how many then? Well, I would be sure we'll be very close to 1000 people but I'm not gonna count. But I wanna give each of them around 100 grams so you now know why we want to bring 100 kg to EBC.

FRA: Quand on organise une dégustation, les premières questions qui viennent à l'esprit sont "combien par personne?" et surtout "combien de personnes y aura-t-il?". Eh bien chaque année, on estime à entre 500 et 1000 personnes qui transittent par le pied de l'Everest, qu'ils soient de passage ou bien pour tenter l'ascension. Le maximum fut atteint en 2003 pour le 50ème anniversaire de la première ascension par Sir Edmund Hillary: 2000 personnes répondirent présentes à ce moment-là!

Vous ai-je jamais dit que la première ascension d'Edmund, adolescent, était le Mont Ollivier? Il s'agit également de ma première "vraie" montagne, en Nouvelle Zélande. Ce fut aussi ma première leçon de trek en montagne: alors que je préparais mon repas de Noël au sommet, j'ai retiré mes lunettes de soleil, ce qui résulta en une cécité temporaire le jour d'après. Aujourd'hui, je suis sensible à la lumière du flash, donc n'essayez pas de me prendre en photo de trop près...

Mais retournons à notre foule à EBC. Alan Arnette, une source très fiable pour les activités sur l'Everest, a écrit cette semaine: "Ceci pourrait être le camp de base le plus connu au monde. Chaque année, des deux côtés de l'Everest, des centaines de personnes prennent leurs quartiers pendant presque deux mois. Cette année, le côté népalais sera en plus fréquenté par les équipes qui ont du postposer leur ascension de 2008...Sérieusement, il y a énormément de trafic qui passe par le Camp de Base. Vous n'avez pas seulement des grimpeurs, mais également des porteurs qui font des allers-retours quotidiens pour apporter du matériel et de la nourriture et emporter les déchets. Des trekkers par centaines visitent enfin le Camp de Base après le sommet du Kala Patar. Ca peut parfois être très peuplé, non seulement par les bipèdes que nous sommes, mais aussi par les yaks!"

A cette information, il faut ajouter que l'Office du Tourisme chinois vient d'annoncer que le côté tibétain serait fermé dans les prochains mois, par crainte de manifestations lors du 50ème anniversaire de la fuite du Dalai Lama.

Au final? Je suis presque certain que nous approcherons le millier de personne, mais je ne vais pas compter. L'idée serait quand-même de donner 100 grammes de chocolat par personne, ce qui nous amène à nos quelques 100 kg à transporter.

Not just a Dream...

ENG: The preparation of a one month-trek in "the great outdoors" does not go without a healthy compensation, drinking a beer or a coktail in a crowded bar before isolating ourselves with...ourselves!

We put that in practice yesterday at the Brussels edition of the Dreamshake Aperos. We mixed with hundreds of artists, travellers,...dreamers, most of them with stars in their eyes and a bunch of projects in their head. We did not go there, however, with the sole purpose of getting drunk and meet funny people; while LouPhi was recruiting some potential co-trekkers and press contacts, I convinced a nice couple of belgian reporters to publish our adventure! More news about us in the press will come soon...

Nous avons mis cela en pratique hier soir en nous rendant à l'édition bruxelloise des Apéros Dreamshake. L'occasion pour nous de socialiser avec des centaines d'artistes, de voyageurs,...de rêveurs, la plupart avec des étoiles dans les yeux et des projets pleins la tête. Nous n'avons pas été là cependant dans le seul but de terminer dans le caniveau avec un illustre inconnu; pendant que LouPhi recrutait des potentiels co-marcheurs et des contacts presse, j'ai convaincu un couple de reporters belges de publier notre aventure...avec un certain succès! No turning back

ENG: We just came back from Jean-Luc Fohal's presentation of his attempt to climb mount Makalu. Images of Nepal became more and more concrete as his films and pictures went by!

We used a break to talk to him and explain our Master Plan: again, smiles soon arised on the faces of the people who surrounded him at the moment. But again also, these smiles quickly turned into serious looks (of concern about our mental health?) when we explained our cause and the way we considered this walk. Jean-Luc could give us some precious contacts of people who will help us!

Then, we did it! There's no turning back now: we bought our plane tickets! Arrival is scheduled in Kathmandu on Sunday April 12, at 15:25 precisely.

FRA: Nous revenons tout juste de la conférence-projection de Jean-Luc Fohal, sur son ascension du Mont Makalu. L'occasion de concrétiser certaines images que nous avions déjà en tête du Népal. LouPhi et moi avons bien évidemment sauté sur Jean-Luc à l'entracte pour lui exposer notre Plan: des sourires sont très vites apparus sur les visages de la petite audience qui l'entourait à ce moment-là. Mais à nouveau, ces sourires se sont bien vite changés en regards sérieux ("mon Dieu, les pauvres nagent en plein délire!") quand nous avons expliqué notre cause et la manière dont nous envisagions cette longue marche. Jean-Luc a pu heureusement nous fournir quelques précieux contacts de gens qui pourront nous aider!

Je ne saurais terminer ce post sans cette info essentielle. Cette fois, ça y est, nous avons franchi le point de non-retour: nos billets d'avion ont été commandés! L'arrivée à Kathmandou est pévue pour le dimanche 12 avril, à 15:25 très précisément!

ENG: There are 2 mountains in front of us, Chocolate Sherpas; the Everest of course, and the amount of work to prepare this unusual expedition. The team is going to be announced early February with full profiles. This blog will become soon a window open to the preparation where every member will be able to post his progression and feelings.

Tomorrow Tuesday evening, 2 chocsherpas will attend a conference about a climb on Makalu by Belgian mountaineer Jean-Luc Fohal and Portugese mountaineer João Garcia. Hopefully, we make good contacts and learn tips.

FRA: Il y a 2 montagnes devant nous, les Chocolate Sherpas; le mont Everest évidemment et cette quantité de travail énorme qu'il reste à faire pour avancer dans ce projet insolite. L'équipe complète sera annoncée début février avec un profil complet de chaque membre. Ce blog rendra compte de l'avancement des préparatifs et des sentiment de chaque membre.

L’objectif de Chocolate Sherpa, est de collecter des dons pour la création d’un hôpital mobile au Népal. Cette structure mobile permettra de dispenser des soins dans les régions reculées.

LE PROJET HUMANITAIRE DE L’HOPITAL MOBILE

Après passé huit années de travail volontaire au service du Nepal Orthopaedic Hospital (Katmandou) et formé de jeunes chirurgiens népalais, un chirurgien belge et son ami népalais projettent aujourd’hui de mettre sur pied un hôpital mobile. Cet hôpital, facile à monter, démonter et transporter via camion ou hélicoptère, permettra à des praticiens de se rendre dans les endroits les plus reculés du Népal. Des camps de un mois permettront de soigner 5000 patients et d’en opérer 250. Cette structure pourrait se déplacer 8 à 10 fois par an. Le coût du matériel de base est estimé à € 250.000 et chaque mois de campagne à € 50.000.
De nombreuses régions du Népal sont inaccessibles par la route ce qui complique à l’extrême l’accès au soin pour les populations pauvres vivant dans ces régions. Leur dénuement les empêche généralement de se rendre dans la capitale pour y recevoir des soins. Grâce à l’hôpital mobile, il sera possible d’apporter aux népalais une médecine générale et plus spécialisée.

LE DEFI SPORTIF, HUMAIN et CULTUREL

L’équipe de Chocolate Sherpa va marcher pendant 400 km de Katmandou au camp de base de l’Everest en distribuant 200 kilos de chocolat. Cette longue marche sera l’occasion d’aller à la rencontre des Sherpas népalais et de partager des moments intenses avec les porteurs qui amènent l’équipement des trekkeurs du monde entier. Du chocolat sera distribué en cours de trajet afin de remercier de manière symbolique ces porteurs et Sherpas. Les 100 derniers kg seront distribués lors d’une dégustation unique à 5350m. A cette période, le camp de base est un village d’entre 500 et 1000 Sherpas et alpinistes venant de tous les continents pour gravir le toit du monde.
L'expédition vise une large médiatisation à envergure mondiale pour satisfaire des sponsors privés (entreprises) en contrepartie de fonds pour le projet de l’hôpital. Les dons de particuliers souhaitant encourager l’équipe de Chocolate Sherpa à atteindre son but sont le deuxième moyen de récolte de fonds.

The objective of Chocolate Sherpa is to collect funds for a Mobile Hospital in Nepal. This hospital will provide care and surgery to remote areas of Nepal.

THE HUMANITARIAN PROJECT FOR THE HOSPITAL

After eight years spent to work as consultant for the Nepal Orthopaedic Hospital (Kathmandu) and training young Nepali surgeons, a Belgian surgeon and his Nepali friend, now plan to set up a mobile hospital. Such facility would be easily mounted, quickly dismounted and transported by truck or chopper and will allow the doctors to reach far remote places of Nepal. Campaigns lasting one month will enable to provide care to 5000 people and to provide medical surgery to 250. The basic equipment’s cost is estimated at 250 000 € and a one month campaign at 50 000€.
Many regions of Nepal are inaccessible through roads and thus providing care in these poor areas is a complicated task. People are unable to reach the capital, because of the cost and time of such a travel. Thanks to the mobile hospital, it will be possible to provide general and specialized care.

A SPORTIVE, HUMAN AND CULTURAL CHALLENGE

The team of Chocolate Sherpa will walk 400 km from Kathmandu to the Everest Base Camp and distribute 200 kg of chocolate. This long walk will allow the team to meet the Sherpa population and share intense moments with those who have been carrying the equipment of westerners for decades. Chocolate will be offered during the trek to porters and Sherpas. The remaining 100 kg will be distributed during a unique chocolate tasting at 5350 meters. During this period of the year, the base camp is a village of between 500 and 1000 Sherpas and international mountaineers who are attempting to reach the summit of the roof of the world.
The expedition targets worldwide media coverage to satisfy corporate sponsors that will donate funds for the mobile hospital. A second mean to collect funds is by private donations to encourage the Chocolate Sherpa team to reach their goal.

HET HUMANITAIR PROJECT VOOR HET HOSPITAAL

Na 8 jaren te hebben doorgebracht en gewerkt als een consultant in de Nepal Orthopaedic Hospital (Kathmandu) and jonge Nepalese chirurgen te hebben getraind, hebben een Belgische orthopedist en zijn Nepalese collega het idee gehad om een mobiel hospitaal op te zetten. Dit hospitaal zou gemakkelijk zijn om te monteren, te ontmantelen en te vervoeren per vrachtwagen of helikopter; het zou dokters toelaten om tot in verafgelegen gebieden van Nepal medische zorg te brengen. Campagnes van één maand lang zouden het mogelijk maken om 5000 personen klinisch te verzorgen en 250 chirurgisch te behandelen. De kost voor de basisuitrusting wordt geschat aan € 250 000 en een maandelijkse campagne aan € 50 000.
Vele regio’s van Nepal zijn moeilijk te bereiken via wegen en dáár mensen gaan verzorgen is een ingewikkelde taak. Nepalezen kunnen de hoofdstad vaak niet bereiken omwille van de tijd en de kosten van het traject. Dankzij het mobiele hospitaal zal het mogelijk zijn om die mensen algemeen en gespecialiseerde medische hulp toe te brengen.

EEN SPORTIEVE, MENSELIJKE EN CULTURELE UITDAGING

Gedurende de 400 km die het team Chocolate Sherpa tussen Katmandu en de Everest Base Camp te voet zal afleggen zal er 200 kg chocolade uitgedeeld worden. Deze lange tocht zal voor het team een gelegenheid zijn om de Sherpa-bevolking te ontmoeten en intense momenten te beleven met díegenen die meer dan 50 jaar lang het expeditiemateriaal hebben gedragen van westerse bergbeklimmers. 100 kg chocolade zal worden uitgedeeld aan dragers, trekkers en Sherpas. De overige 100 kg zal worden uitgedeeld gedurende een unieke chocoladedegustatie aan de voet van de Everest (5350 m). Das humanitäre Projekt des mobilen Krankenhauses

Ein belgischer Chirurg, der acht Jahre im Nepal Orthopaedic Hospital (Kathmandu) als Facharzt gearbeitet und junge nepalesische Chirurgen ausgebildet hat, plant nun gemeinsam mit seinem nepalesischen Freund ein mobiles Krankenhaus zu errichten. Eine solche Einrichtung wäre leicht zu errichten, schnell abzubauen und mit einem LKW oder Hubschrauber zu transportieren, sodass sie den Ärzten die Möglichkeit bieten würde, weit abgelegene Orte Nepals zu erreichen. Während einer einmonatigen Campagne könnten 5000 Menschen medizinisch versorgt und 250 davon operiert werden. Das mobile Krankenhaus könnte 8-10 Mal pro Jahr den Ort wechseln. Die Grundausstattung kostet geschätzte 250 000 € und eine einmonatige Campagne ca. 50 000 €. Viele Regionen Nepals sind über Straßen nicht zugänglich, was die medizinische Versorgung in diesen armen Gegenden extrem erschwert. Die Armut der Menschen hindert sie daran die Hauptstadt zu erreichen, um sich dort medizinisch behandeln zu lassen. Dank des mobilen Krankenhauses wird es möglich sein allgemeine und spezialisierte medizinische Versorgung zu gewährleisten.

Eine sportliche, menschliche und kulturelle Herausforderung

Das Team von Chocolate Sherpa wird 400 km von Kathmandu zum Everest Basis Lager laufen und dabei 200 kg Schokolade verteilen. Dieser lange Weg wird es dem Team erlauben die nepalesischen Sherpa zu treffen und intensive Momente mit den Menschen zu teilen, die jahrzehntelang die Ausrüstung der Trecker aus der ganzen Welt getragen haben. Um sich bei den Trägern und Sherpas symbolisch zu bedanken, wird während des Trecks Schokolade verteilt. Die verbleibenden 100 kg werden während einer einmaligen Schokoladenverkostung auf 5350 m Höhe verteilt werden. Zu dieser Jahreszeit ist das Basislager ein Dorf von 500 bis 1000 Sherpas und Bergsteigern, die aus aller Welt anreisen, um das Dach der Welt zu erklimmen. Die Expedition strebt weltweite Medienaufmerksamkeit an, um private Sponsoren (Firmen), die für das mobile Krankenhaus spenden, zufrieden zu stellen. Ein zweiter Weg der Spendensammlung sind private Spenden, die das Chocolate Sherpa Team anspornen, ihr Ziel zu erreichen.

Louis-Philippe Loncke, den belgiska äventyraren, förbereder sin nästa expedition: En 400 km lång vandring mellan Katmandu och Everest basstation (Nepal) för att hålla den högsta chokladprovningen i världen. Detta är ett unikt event med världsomspännande mediatäckning och ett äventyr som kommer sätta belgien på kartan. Målet med choklad-sherpa är att samla medel till ett mobilt sjukhus i Nepal. Sjukhuset kommer tillhandahålla vård och operationer åt avlägsna delar av Nepal.

DET HUMANITÄRA PROJEKTET FÖR SJUKHUSET

En belgisk kirurg och hans Nepalesiska vän planerar att starta ett mobilt sjukhus efter att ha jobbat som konsulter åt Nepal Orthopaedic Hospital (Katmandu) och tränat unga Nepalesiska kirurger i åtta år. Det mobila sjukhuset kommer vara lätt att montera, snabbt att avmontera och transporteras med lastbil eller helikopter vilket gör det möjligt för läkarna att nå avlägsna platser i Nepal. En månadslång kampanj beräknas ge vård åt 5000 personer och kirurgi åt 250. Kostnaden för den grundläggande utrustningen uppskattas vara € 250 000 och för en månadslång kampanj € 50 000. Många regioner i Nepal är inte tillgängliga via väg och att tillhandahålla vård i dessa delar är svårt. Personer kan inte nå sjukhusen i huvudstaden på grund av kostnaden och tiden det tar att resa från dessa otillgängliga platser. Tack vare det mobila sjukhuset kommer det vara möjligt att ge grundläggande och mer specialiserad vård i dessa områden.

EN SPORTIG OCH KULTURELL UTMANING

Choklad-sherpa gruppen kommer gå de 400 kilometerna från Katmandu till Mount Everest basstation och dela ut 200 kilo choklad. Den långa vandringen kommer ge gruppen möjlighet att träffa Sherpa befolkningen och utbyta erfarenheter med de som har burit utrustning till västerlänningar i årtionden. Det kommer erbjudas choklad till bärare och Sherpas under vandringen. De 100 kilo choklad som återstår i slutet kommer delas ut under en chokladprovning på 530 meters höjd. Under den tiden på året finns det mellan 500 till 1000 sherpas och internationella bergsklättrare vid Mount Everest basstation. Expeditionen planerar för världsomspännande mediabevakning för att tillfredsställa de företag som sponsrar det mobila sjukhuset. Ett andra sätt bidra är genom privata donationer för att uppmundra choklad-sherpa gruppen att nå sitt mål.

EL PROYECTO HUMANITARIO DEL HOSPITAL MÓVIL

Después de ocho años de trabajo voluntario en el Nepal Orthopaedic Hospital (Katmandú) y de haber instruido a jóvenes cirujanos nepalíes, un médico belga y su colega nepalí planean poner en pie un hospital móvil. Este hospital, de fácil montaje y trasladable por camión o helicóptero, permitirá a los médicos llegar a valles remotos de Nepal. Durante campañas de un mes, 5000 pacientes podrán ser curados y llevarse a cabo 250 operaciones de cirugía. El hospital debería ser trasladado de 8 a 10 veces al año, con un coste mensual de 50000 €. El coste total del material de base se estima en 250000 €.
En muchas regiones de Nepal no existen carreteras, lo que complica extremadamente el acceso a cuidados médicos para las poblaciones pobres. La falta de medios financieros y técnicos para llegar a la capital les impide recibir cuidados. Gracias al hospital móvil, podrán tener acceso tanto a medicina general como especializada.

EL RETO ESPORTIVO, HUMANO Y CULTURAL

El equipo de Chocolate Sherpa va a marchar los 400 Km. entre Katmandú y el campamento base del Everest, distribuyendo 200 Kg. de chocolate. Esta marcha será una oportunidad para ir al encuentro de Sherpas y vivir intensos momentos con ellos, que trasladan el equipaje de trekkers del mundo entero. El chocolate será distribuido durante el trayecto para agradecer simbólicamente la ayuda a estos portadores y Sherpas. Los últimos 100 Kg. serán catados durante una degustación única a 5350m de altura. En ese momento, el campamento base se convierte en un pueblo de entre 500 y 1000 habitantes, Sherpas y alpinistas de todos los continentes.

L’obiettivo del CHOCOLATE SHERPA, è di raccogliere donazioni per la creazione di un ospedale mobile in Nepal. Questa struttura mobile permetterà di offrire ricovero nelle regioni più arretrate.

IL PROGETTO UMANITARIO DELL’OSPEDALE MOBILE

Dopo otto anni di lavoro volontario al servizio del Nepal Orthopaedic Hospital (Katmandou) e la formazione di giovani chirurghi nepalesi, un chirurgo belga e un suo amico nepalese progettano ora la creazione di un ospedale mobile. Questo ospedale, facile da montare, smontare e trasportare per mezzo di camion o elicottero, permetterà ai pazienti di recarvisi nei luoghi più remoti del Nepal. Dei campi di un mese permetteranno di curare 5000 pazienti e di operarne 250. Questa struttura potrà essere spostata da 8 a 10 volte all’anno. Il costo del materiale di base è stimato sui € 250.000 e ogni mese di servizio sui € 50.000. Numerose regioni del Nepal non sono accessibili attraverso le strade ordinarie, e questo complica eccessivamente l’accesso alle cure per le popolazioni povere che vivono in queste regioni. La loro povertà impedisce a questa gente di recarsi nelle capitali per ricevere cure. Grazie all’ospedale mobile, sarà possibile di apportare ai nepalesi un tipo di cure più varie e specializzate.

LA SFIDA SPORTIVA, UMANA E CULTURALE

La squadra del COCCOLATO SHERPA camminerà per 400 Km da Katmandou fino al campo base dell’Everest distribuendo 200 Kg di cioccolato. Questo lungo cammino sarà l’occasione di andare incontro agli Sherpa nepalesi e di condividere dei momenti intensi con queste guide che trasportano l’attrezzatura degli amanti del trekking del mondo intero. Il cioccolato sarà distribuito lungo il tragitto al fine di ringraziare, in modo del tutto simbolico, le guide e gli Sherpa. Gli ultimi 100 Kg saranno distribuiti durante una degustazione unica a 5.350 metri di altezza. In questo periodo il campo base è un villaggio composto di 500-1000 Sherpa e alpinisti provenienti da tutti i continenti per scalare il tetto del mondo. La spedizione mira a una promozione mediatica di portata mondiale per ricompensare sponsor privati (imprese) per il conferimento di fondi per il progetto dell’ospedale. Le donazioni dei privati per incoraggiare la squadra del CIOCCOLATO SHERPA a portare a termine il suo progetto, rappresentano la seconda via di questa raccolta fondi.

Эта передвижная больница позволит лечить непальских жителей, живущих в отдаленных регионах.

Гуманитарный проект по созданию передвижной больницы

После 8 лет волонтерской работы в отделении Непальской Ортопедической больницы (Катманду) бельгийский хирург и его непальский друг и единомышленник решили создать передвижную больницу. Подобная мобильная больница легко собираеться и разбираеться, перевозиться на грузовой машине или на вертолете, что позволит врачам переместиться с необхлдимым оборудованием в отдаленные регионы Непала. Оставаясь на месте в течении 1 месяца, терапевты и специалисты передвижной больницы смогут оказать врачебную помощь 5000 пациентам и прооперировать около 250 человек. Передвижная больница будет ежегодно осуществлять 8-10 переездов из одного региона в другой. Стоимость оборудование для больницы составит приблизительно 250.000 евро и ежемесячные расходы – 50.000 евро. Такая больница необходима, так как многие регионы Непала недосягаемы из-за отсутсвия дорог, что делает невозможным для бедгного населения этой страны получить медицинское лечение. Передвижная больница – единственная надежда, живущих в нищите непальцев, на медицинскую помощь специализированных врачей.

Гуманитарный и культурный вызов

Команда «Шоколад Sherpa» пройдет пешком 400 км от Катманду до базового лагеря Эвереста, раздавая на своем пути 200 килограмм шоколада. Этот долгий поход даст возможность познакомиться с бытом местных шерпы – народности, насчитывающей около 150 тысяч человек, живущих на территории Непала. Шерпы являються отличными проводниками и носильщиками оборудования для трека. Без их помощи трек-экспедиции в Непале были бы крайне трудными и рискованными. PROJEK PERIKEMANUSIAAN KASIHAN UNTUK HOSPITAL

Setelah berkhidmat sebagai pakar perunding Orthopaedic Hospital Nepal. (Kathmandu) dan melatih pembedah-pembedah muda Nepal sepanjang 8 tahun, pakar pembedah Belgium ini dan seorang kawan lain telah merancang untuk menubuhkan sebuah “hospital bergerak”, yang mudah didirikan dan cepat diyahhimpunkan supaya boleh diangkut oleh lori atau helicopter dan mengizinkan doctor-doktor sampai ke tempat-tempat terpencil di Nepal. Kempen-kempen sepanjang satu bulan akan memberi perkhidmatan jagaan kepada 5000 orang pesakit dan pembedahan termasuk perubatan kepada 250 orang pesakit yang lain. . Kos pekakasan untuk projek ini ditaksirkan 250.000 (pounds) dan kos kempen selama sebulan dijanka 50.000 pounds pula.

Kebanyakan kawasan- kawasan di Nepal tidak kesampaian dengan jalan dan hasrat untuk memberi perkhidmatan jagaan dan perubatan kepada penduduk-penduduk di kawasan-kawasan miskin ini adalah sangat sukar. Pesakit-pesakit kawasan sini tidak dapat sampai ke ibukota oleh kerana kos perjalanan tinggi dan masa panjang diperlukan untuk membuat perjalanan itu. Dengan adanya hospital bergerak ini , segala hasrat tersebut ini boleh dicapai..

SEMANGAT SPORTIF DAN CABARAN KEMANUSIAAN DAN KEBUDAYAAN

Satu pasukan “ Coklat Sherp” akan berjalan kaki 400km dari Kathmandu ke “Kem Dasar Everest” untuk mengedarkan 200kg coklat. Perjalanan panjang ini membenarkan ahli-ahli pasukan ini berjumpa dengan penduk-penduduk Sherpa dan berkongsi semangat gembira dengan mereka yang pernah menolong mengangkut barang-barangan dan perkakas bagi orang barat buat berpuluh-puluh tahun lalu. Coklat-coklat akan diedarkan kepada pengangkut-pengangkut Sherpa dan penduduk-penduduk Sherpa dalam perjalanan itu. 100 kilogram coklat yang tinggal akan diagihkan dalam sesuatu peristiwa unik merasa coklat di paras 5350 metres. Dalam tempoh masa ini Kem Dasar menjadi sebuah kampong dengan500 hingga 1000 orang Sherpa dan pendaki-pendaki gunung yang akan mencuba mendaki sampai puncak bumbung dunia ini.

और यह एक बेल्जियन की कहानी हैं जो दुनिया में बेल्जियम की छवि को बहाल करेगा!

चॉक्लेट शेरपा का उद्देश्य नेपाल में एक मोबाइल हॉस्पिटल के लिए धन एकत्र करना हैं. यह हॉस्पिटल नेपाल के दूरस्थ क्षेत्रो के लिए देखभाल एवं शल्य चिकित्सा की सुविधा प्रदान करेगा.

हॉस्पिटल के लिए मानवीय परियोजना:

आठ साल तक नेपाल हड्डी रोग हॉस्पिटल (काठमांडू) में सलाहकार के रूप में कार्य करने के बाद एवं युवा नेपाली सर्जन को प्रशिक्षित करने के बाद , एक बेल्जियन सर्जन एवं उनके नेपाली दोस्त, नेपाल में एक मोबाइल हॉस्पिटल स्थापित करने की योजना बना रहे हैं. इस तरह की सुविधा से विभिन्नक्षेत्रो को जोड़ने में एवं ट्रक और हेलिकॉप्टर द्वारा सामान पहुचने में सुविधा होगी. इससे डॉक्टर को दूरस्थ क्षेत्रो में पहुचने में आसानी भी हो जाएगा. एक माह तक चलने वाला यह अभियान 5000 लोगो को देखभाल एवं 250 लोगो को शल्य चिकित्सा की सुविधा प्रदान करने में सक्षम हो जाएगा. अनुमान यह हैं की मूल उपकरण की कीमत लगभग 250 000 यूरो एवं एक माह के इस अभियान में कुल खर्च लगभग 50 000 यूरो का होगा.

नेपाल के कई क्षेत्रो में सड़को से पहुचना बहुत ही दुर्गम हैं एवं इस प्रकार इन ग़रीब क्षेत्रो में देखभाल प्रदान करना एक जटिल काम हैं. लोग राजधानी तक पहुचने में लगने वाले लागत एवं समय के कारण , राजधानी पहुचने में असमर्थ हैं. मोबाइल हॉस्पिटल को धन्यवाद हो जिसके कारण सामान्य एवं विशेष देखभाल प्रदान करना संभव हो जाएगा.

विनोदी, मानव एवं सांस्कृतिक चुनौती:

चॉक्लेट शेरपा का यह दल काठमांडू से एवरेस्ट के आधार शिविर तक 400 किमी चलेगा और 200 किलोग्राम चॉक्लेट वितरित करेगा. इस लंबी यात्रा के कारण यह दल शेरपा आबादी से मिलने में सक्षम हो पायेगा और उन लोगो के साथ कुछ गहन छण व्यतीत कर पाएगा जो दशको से पश्चिमी देशो के उपकरण को ढोह रहे हैं. यात्रा के दौरान कुली और शेरपा में चॉक्लेट वितरित किया जायेगा. शेष 100 किलोग्राम अनूठा चॉक्लेट चखने के दौरान 5350 मीटर की दूरी पर वितरित किया जाएगा. इस वर्ष की इस अवधि के दौरान , आधार शिविर 500 से 1000 शेरपो एवं अंतरराष्ट्रिए पर्वतारोहियो के बीच वह गाँव हैं जो दुनिया के छत के शिखर तक पहुचने का प्रयास कर रहे हैं.

इस अभियान का उद्देशय दुनिया भर के मीडीया कवरेज के द्वारा उन कॉर्पोरेट प्रायोजोको को संतुष्ट करना हैं जो मोबाइल हॉस्पिटल के लिए धन दान करेंगे. शेरपो को अपने लक्ष्य तक पहुचने के लिए प्रोत्साहित करने के लिए धन एकत्रित करने का दूसरा तरीका निजी दान हैं.

Čtyřista kilometrový trek mezi Kathmandu a základním táborem Everestu (Nepal), organizuje zde nejvyšší čokoládovou ochutnávku na světě.
Je to výjimečná událost, která bude sledována medii z celého světa a která rozšíří povědomí o Belgii ve světě.
Cílem čokoládových šerpů je nasbírat finanční prostředky pro mobilní nemocnici v Nepálu. Tato nemocnice bude sloužit pro odlehlé oblasti v Nepálu.

Dobročinný projekt pro nemocnici

Po osmi letech práce jako odborný lékař pro Nepálskou ortopedickou nemocnice (Kathmandu) a trenování mladých nepálských chirurgů, Belgický chirurg a jeho nepálský přítel, plánují vytvořit mobilní nemocnici. Zařízení bude jednoduše pojízdné rychle odmontovatelné a převážené náklaďákem nebo vrtulníkem a bude poskytovat doktory, aby dosáhli dalekých míst v Nepálu. Kampaň trvající jeden měsíc umožní poskytnout peči 5000 lidem a poskytne lékařské zákroky 250. Základní zařízení stojí odhadem 250 000 € a měsíc kampaně 50 000€.
Mnoho oblastí v Nepálu jsou nedostupné po silnicích tudíž poskytování péče v těchto chudých oblastech je komplikovaná práce. Lidé se nemohou dostat do měst kvůli penězům a času stráveného cestováním. Díky mobilní nemocnici, bude možné poskytnout všeobecnou a speciální péči.

Sportovní, dobročinný a kulturní zážitek

Skupina Čokoládový šerpa půjde 400km z Kathmandu do základního tábora Everestu a bude roznášet 200 kg čokolády. Tato dlouhá cesta poskytne skupině potkat šerpské obyvatele a rozdělí se o silné chvilky s těmi, kteří nosí vybavení pro lidi ze Západu po desetiletí.
Čokoláda bude nabízená během treku průvodcům a šerpům. Zbývajících 100 kg bude rozneseno během výjmečného čokoládového ochutnávání v 5350 metrech. Základní tábor je vesnice mezi 500 a 1000 šerpami a mezinárodními horolezci, kteří se pokouší dosáhnout vrcholu světa .

O PROJETO

O aventureiro belga Louis-Philippe Loncke está preparando sua próxima expedição. Uma caminhada de 400 km entre Katmandu e o acamoament na base do Everest (Nepal), para organizar ali a maior degustaçao de chocolate do mundo! É um acontecimento único no mundo. Uma história belga, que irá restaurar a imagem da Bélgica no mundo! O objetivo do Chocolate Sherpa é recolher fundos para um Hospital Móvel no Nepal. Este hospital irá prestar cuidados e cirurgia para áreas remotas do Nepal.

O PROJETO HUMANITÁRIO PARA O HOSPITAL

Após oito anos trabalhando como consultor para o Hospital Ortopédico do Nepal (Katmandu) e treinando jovens cirurgiões nepaleses, um cirurgião belga e seu amigo Nepalês, agora planejam criae um hospital móvel. Esse establecimento pode ser facilmente montado, rapidamente desmontado e transportado por caminhão ou helicóptero e irá permitir que os médicos cheguem até lugares remotos do Nepal. Campanhas duradouras de um mês irão permitir a prestação de cuidados para 5000 pessoas e para prestar cuidados médicos e cirurgias para 250 pessoas. O custo do equipamento básico é estimado em 250000€ e um ês de campanham 50000€. Muitas regiões do Nepal são inacessíveis através de estradas e, portanto, prestar cuidados nestas áreas pobres é uma tarefa complicada. As pessoas são incapazes de chegar à capital, devido ao custo e tempo de tal viagem. Graças ao hospital móvel, será possível fornecer geral e atendimento especializado.

UM DESAFIO ESPORTIVO, HUMANO E CULTURAL

A equipa do Chocolate Sherpa vai andar 400 km de Katmandu até o Acampamento Base do Everest e distribuir 200 quilos de chocolate. Esta longa caminhada permitirá que a equipe encontre a população Sherpa e compartilhar momentos intensos com aqueles que têm carregado os equipamentos ocidentais durante décadas. Os chocolates serão oferecidos durante o trekking para carregadores e Sherpas. O restante dos 100 kg será distribuído durante uma única degustaçao a 5.350 metros de altura. Durante este período do ano, o acampamento é uma aldeia de entre 500 e 1000 Sherpas e monathanistas internacionais que estão tentando alcanzar o topo do mundo. A expedição visa a cobertura da medial internacional para a projeção dos patrocinadores corporativos que irão financiar o hospital móvel. A segunda medida para recolher fundos é através de doações privadas incentivando o time dos Chocolate Sherpa a alcançar seus objetivos.

Week 1 : Kathmandu to Jiri
Week 2 : Jiri to Lukla
Week 3+4: Lukla to EBC to Lukla - climbing Kala Patthar (5545m/18192ft.).

This includes acclimatization days. Fly out from Lukla to Kathmandu. Normally the distance from Kathmandu to EBC is 302 km. The total trip will be around 400km. The ascent will be over 14000m and over 10000m of descent. A real challenge if you are carrying kgs of chocolate! The aim to organize the Belgian chocolate tasting on the 6th of May to allow plenty of time to return safely to Lukla, Kathmandu and then home.
Some Chocolate Sherpas will join from Lukla and help the ones who will start from Kathmandu.

Semaine 1: Kathmandou à Jiri
Semaine 2: Jiri à Lukla
Semaine 3+4: Lukla à CBE (Camp de base de l'Everest) à Lukla - gravir le Kala Patthar (5545m).

Ce temps prend en compte des jours pour s'acclimater ainsi que le vol de retour de Lukla à Kathmandou.
La distance entre Kathmandou et CBE est de 302 km. Le trajet complet avec le retour totalisera environ 400km avec un dénivelé positif de 14000m et négatif de 10000m. Un sacré défi s'il faut porter des kgs de chocolat! Le date prévue pour la dégustation est estimée au 6 Mai 2009. Cela permet assez de temps pour revenir sans grans risque vers Lukla, Kathmandou puis le retour chez soi. Une partie de sherpas en chocolat rejoindra le premier groupe, étant pqrti de la capitale, à Lukla.

Jeremy Roumian

ENG : Jeremy joined the Chocolate Sherpa team because he was seduced by this unique idea and the real challenges of this expedition.
Unfortunately, he would not be able to walk and carry the chocolate, but he will bring his support during all the steps of the expedition in terms of logistics and communication.

He is French, 24 years old and got a Master in Business and Management. He currently works in the supply chain management within a Telecommunication company while studying in a Master in Logistics.
His current academic researches are focused on the logistic of expeditions (scientific, cultural or sports).

Early fascinated by explorations, Jeremy travelled solo in Australia during three months (15 000 km in a campervan) and then in South America (Chile, Bolivia) and Japan.
He has several projects of trekking and exploration for the future…

What will he bring in this expedition?
Jeremy will bring his skills in logistics and support. Persevering and organised he will support the team to achieve the common goal.

His favourite chocolate? Dark (90% cocoa) and of course…Belgian chocolate!

FRA : Jérémy a rejoint l’équipe de Chocolate Sherpa car il a été séduit par cette idée unique et les défis que soulève cette expédition.
Malheureusement, il ne pourra partir au Népal et porter le chocolat, mais il apportera son soutien en terme de logistique et de communication durant toute la durée de l’expédition.

Il est français, a 24 ans et a obtenu un Master en Gestion et Management. Il travaille actuellement dans le management logistique dans une entreprise de télécommunication, tout en faisant un Master en Logistique.
Ses recherches académiques portent, aujourd’hui, sur la logistique des expéditions scientifiques, culturelles et sportives.

Fasciné très jeune par l’exploration et les explorateurs, Jérémy a parcouru, seul, l’Australie durant trois mois (15 000 km dans une camionnette), puis en Amérique du Sud (Chili, Bolivie) et au Japon.
Il a plusieurs projets de treks et d’exploration pour le futur…

Que va-t-il apporter à cette expédition ?
Jérémy va apporter ses compétences en logistique et en soutien. Persévérant et organisé, il soutiendra l’équipe pour atteindre le but commun.

Son chocolat préféré : noir (90% de cacao) et bien sûr…le chocolat belge !

Norbert Eggermont

ENG: Being 24, it's a miracle Norbert still kept all his teeth considering the amount of chocolate he ingested during his short life. Norbert is a true chocaholic, but not only that: he loves fresh air and strong sensations...hence his enthusiasm for project Chocolate Sherpa.
Commited, he was previously engaged in student organisations, first promoting the respect of Human Rights then respect and knowledge of the environment.
Although a true music lover, he will have to leave his guitar at home and content himself with the sound of the wind, nepali trumpets and of LouPhi's jokes as sole musical background.
Belgian from origin, Norbert travelled to the USA and Africa, visited most of Western Europe and has lived in Spain for 6 months. As a true Belgian, he speaks both French and Dutch perfectly, practices English and Spanish every day and masters the basics of German. He further plans to learn Japanese and Turkish...let's say in a near future!

Norbert graduated in 2007 in Political science and will try to put his sense of diplomacy at the service of this crazy project!

FRA: A 24 ans, c'est un miracle que Norbert ait encore toutes ses dents vu la quantité de chocolat qu'il a ingurgité durant sa courte vie.
Norbert est donc drogué au chocolat, mais pas seulement: il aime l'air frais et les sensations fortes...d'où son enthousiasme pour Chocolate Sherpa.
Engagé, il a été membre d'organisations étudiantes promouvant le respect des Droits de l'Homme et la connaissance de la nature.
Egalement grand fan de musique, il devra cependant laisser sa guitare en Belgique et se contenter du vent, des trompettes népalaises et des blagues de LouPhi comme unique fond sonore!
Belge d'origine, Norbert a voyagé aux Etats-Unis et en Afrique, a quadrillé l'Europe de l'Ouest et a vécu 6 mois en Espagne. En tant que vrai Belge, il parle parfaitement le français et le néerlandais, parle l'anglais et l'espagnol tous les jours et possède des bases en allemand. Il projette d'apprendre le japonais et le turc dans un futur...disons proche!

Norbert a obtenu son diplôme de Science politique en 2007 et va essayer de mettre son sens de la diplomatie au service de ce projet fou!

ENG: Louis-Philippe Loncke (LouPhi) is the leader of this expedition. He had the idea of this unique expedition. He is nicknamed "The Crazy Belgian" in Australia because of his previous solo adventures. Known as adventurer or explorer in several countries, he has been featured in over 20 newspapers, adventure blogs and national TV news in Belgium, France, Australia and the USA. After his world first Simpson desert Trek, he wants to go back to the mountains and not solo.

Louphi is born in Belgium and will turn 32 in March 2009. He has several degrees: Master of industrial engineering in Electro-mechanics, Master in Industrial management and expert class in treasury management. He is still eager to learn things in IT and management. He works in Brussels as consultant in IT and management (Project management and Service management). He is fluent in French, Dutch and English. He knows some Spanish and is learning Russian.

Louphi has discovered the outdoors while scubadiving in Australia where he started his passion for bushwalking (hiking, trekking). He has walked solo over 3200 km in the past 4 years. He has learned about explorers, survival and planning new extreme routes across desert, tropical forest, jungle and mountain cold ranges.

Why is he important in this expedition?
He is the leader, the person with heaps of ideas and a will to share the project and bring it to the end. His tasks will include communications, photography, filming, press relations and motivating the team members to succeed. He’s a funny guy and the team will have to endure his crazy Belgian humor ! That’s not an easy task.

Après avoir réalisé une première mondiale lors de sa traversée du désert de Simpson, il veut retourner à la montagne et pas seul.

Il s'intéresse et apprend un maximum de choses à propos des explorateurs et la survie pour parcourir de nouvelles pistes à travers les déserts, les forêts tropicales, la jungle et la montagne.

Pourquoi est-il important dans cette expédition?
C'est le leader, celui qui possède un talent pour créer de nouvelles idées et partager des projets en les menant à bien jusqu'au bout. Ces tâches incluent la communication, la photo, la réalisation du film, les relations avec la presse et surtout la motivation de l'équipe dans les périodes de doute. C'est aussi un boute-en-train et il faut pouvoir subir son humour caustique. Ce qui n'est pas une mince affaire!

Joseph de Mahieu

ENG: At 18, Joseph de Mahieu is the youngest of the sherpa team. Jo has already done treks in the Alps and the Pyrenees, but this new expedition can’t be compared in terms of altitude, endurance, bravery and adventure. But Jo is confident and hopes that with his willpower, motivation and the support of his new big brothers he will eventually make it ! Maybe he'll become the first Belgian redhead aged of 18 to reach the mythic Everest base camp!

During his childhood, the idea to go discover the world quivered him. He liked then to immerse himself into an atlas to daydream... Today, this hunger for new horizons is still very present and this trekking in the Himalaya excites him so much that he sleeps very little.

Furthermore, Jo already did some crazy projects such as a tour of France hitchhiking and he’s currently spending his time in an youth organization, where he has the opportunity to share his taste for adventure with teenagers, providing them s sense of adventure. Jo studies political sciences in Brussels.

Jo's loves the outdoors, particularly the mountain, but also of geography, photography and ... of course......Belgian chocolate !!! He’ll take any opportunity to improve his drawing skills with subjects like stunning landscapes, sherpas and monks.

FRA: A 18 ans, Joseph de Mahieu est le benjamin du groupe. Il a déjà acquis une belle expérience en trekking notamment dans les Alpes et les Pyrénées mais le trek qui s'annonce n'est en rien comparable en terme d'altitude, d'endurance, de courage et d'aventure! Mais Jo est confiant, et espère donc qu'avec sa volonté, sa motivation et les encouragements de ses nouveaux grands frères, il y arrivera ! Ne deviendrait-il pas alors le premier roux belge de 18 ans à atteindre le mythique camp de base de l’Everest ?

Depuis son enfance, l'idée de partir à la découverte du monde le faisait déjà frémir. Il s'immergeait dans un atlas pour rêvasser. Aujourd'hui encore, cette soif de découverte et d’aventure lui procure un bien-être et une liberté qu'il ne ressent nulle-part ailleurs. Cette grande expédition dans l'Himalaya commence d'ailleurs déjà à raccourcir ses nuits, car excité comme il est par ce voyage il a parfois du mal à s'endormir!

Jo a déjà réalisé un tour de France en stop et s’investit actuellement dans Passeport ASBL, une organisation de jeunesse où il partage son goût d'évasion à des plus jeunes, tout en leur donnant une belle formation à l'aventure. Jo est en faculté de sciences politiques à Bruxelles.

Jo aime la montagne, la géographie, la photographie et le chocolat belge, bien sûr et il aura surtout l’opportunité de perfectionner son talent en dessin sur des sujets variés comme les paysages, les portraits de sherpas ou encore de moines.
